Passports, National Id & Real Id - A Real Threat
Photo Credit: http://www.noteprinting.com/images/passports.jpgWhen I was younger, a lot younger, I lived with my Aunt and Uncle for two years. One of the things I remember most was the summertime. Oh if I only knew than what I know now I never would have ask to be returned to my home. Now don't take that the wrong way. I loved my family, however I could have grown up in a much better environment than I did and my life I believe would have been so much more different. But that is a different story and this is about how I had the best two vacations in my lifetime.
I remember my first vacation as I had never been on a vacation before living with them. Even now I don't really have vacations and rarely do I go anywhere. So when we took a trip around the Great Lakes up into Canada it was a time worth remembering. We drove around Lake Superior and visited the paper mills, saw the ore boats coming into port to load or unload, went to Mackinaw Island by ferry and all in all I just had a wonderful time.
We also did not need a passport to enter Canada or return to the United States. Just a photo id like my uncles drivers license was all that was needed. They ask you a few questions upon entry and on leaving I recall the border guards asking if we had anything to declare. How simple could it have been back then to the changes we see now.
In fact if I recall correctly {I don't really travel much so if I'm wrong about this please let me know in the comments} you only needed a passport to travel outside the United States overseas, such as Europe. There is also another type of passport like the one in the photo below.

Now we come too the juice or as some would say the meat of the story. This is the one that will give the Government the ability to track all American Citizens as well as any so called Terrorists that they deem may be a security threat to the United States or as I now call it America The Fourth Reich.

Meet the National Id.
Photo Credit: http://www.rfid-666.com/images/National-ID-4.jpgThis is the killer of our freedom and our Democracy and this is now the law. The National Id or Real Id is a step towards a totalitarian Government as can be seen here. Or as on the card below.
Photo Credit: http://www.prisonplanet.com/images/may2005/110505realid.jpgThis is what our Senators had too say about this bill they passed 100-0 on May 10, 2005.
You can read about it hear at Senate Passes Real Id. There is also this article from The Electronic Privacy Information Center.
So we have gone from being able to travel to Canada, Mexico or the Caribbean with just a photo id by car or even by plane to now having to have a passport. You can not travel outside the country without one and I would have to guess that even to fly anywhere, even inside the United States you need a passport.
That is all well and good provided you don't get put on a no fly list. If your put on the no fly list you can not travel anywhere by plane. At least before you could legally leave the country by car or ship, but not no more. In fact you can not even enter the United States even if you are a US Citizen without a passport. So is this to keep Terrorist out or to keep American Citizens in? Have you given any thoughts to this? If so what are they?
Soon I fear that when Martial Law in enacted you will not even be able to travel from State to State without being ask for your National Id or Real Id. How hard do you think it would be to set up check points along the major arteries and check everyone attempting to leave one State and enter another? I don't think it would be that hard to do and you better start thinking how you will travel when that day comes. And it is coming soon believe me.
How about those who wish to attend rallies to speak out against our Government? Do you think that they will let you travel to another State to attend one? Think again my friend. They may as well tattooed identity numbers on are arms as they did the Jews in Nazi Germany as our Government is now being run by the Republican Fascist Nazi Party along with some Democratic Enablers. They have betrayed Our Country, Our Constitution and Everything America once stood for.
So how do you feel about the Government keeping data files on you and every other American Citizen now? Do you have any plans for getting out of the country once Martial Law is enacted? What about the fact you may not be able to move your money or assets out of the country when you attempt to leave? Do you feel any safer now? I sure the hell don't.

Great post, Anon-P. I find it strange that until a few yrs ago, it was conservative republicans who were most vocally opposed to any form of national I.D. They violently opposed social security cards for just that reason. They led the fight against the thumbprint requirement of many state's drivers licenses. Funny how much difference a few yrs makes. Now they are the ones screaming, if you've got nothing to hide, you've got nothing to fear.
RFID chips in passports are bad enough, but they will soon be (if they are not already) on credit cards, point-of-purchase scanners, in your cars, your mail, your garbage, etc. Transmitter/Receiver towers on every street corner, of course. This is democracy in bushmerika, inspired by the worst totalitarian nightmares.
You are blogging the truth & I take your points about eventually not being able to move money or assets out the country, effectively halting emmigration, very seriously.
d.k.raed...
There are some states I had read that are going to fight this. Those who don't comply loose Federal funds.
One thing is for sure though is that one way or the other they will force National Id's on Americans.
God Bless.
I'll take the chance of defying DHS and WILL visit your blog

I'm Canadian, and I used to be able to just drive across the border for anything, at any time, without even any ID. We would pop over to Bellingham to go to a little tavern, or to Seattle to do some shopping. Not anymore. My Canadian passport has expired, and because of the US's new laws, I am on a six month wait list to get a new Canadian passport, in order to visit the States. It's too bizarre for words!

Thanks for stopping by and your more than welcome to drop in anytime.
For a heads up I generally post on either Saturday or Sunday.

Hi and its good too see you. More and more they are tightening there grip on our ability to move freely in our country.
One day we will not be able to go from state to state without wondering if we will be stopped at the state line and denied access to cross.
I hope your able to get your new passport soon or at least a visa to permit you to visit here.
Take care and ...
God Bless you both.
They are very much anxious to set up a DPRK/Soviet system of internal passports.
The "good" news? When this country flies apart, you'll have the paperwork necessary to apply for a passport to see your relatives in whatever breakaway Republic they live in.
Creepy stuff. Their slowly tring to turn us into a communist nation.
Excellent postand oh so true.
Did they make a law for passports to Canada and Mexico to prevent seniors from buying cheaper drugs, or was it to insure the set up,of the total dominance.
I think it was both.
The "Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave" has turned into a land the frightened who want to flee.
This is Bush's Nazi America!
Check this out Anon-Paranoid:
By Joe Gandelman
Once upon a time, there was a phrase that truly was cringe-worthy. It was as trite as when someone would say (as if it was profound) “we don’t want to sit around singing Kumbaya.”
The phrase is “they’re just being Good Germans.” It’s a phrase that was hideously overused during the Vietnam War (for those of us who remember) and now in the Iraq war….which has shaped up as this generation’s Vietnam war.
But New York Times columnist Frank Rich has now made it legitimate again in a column that is that asks readers to stop and see how far the United States has come — or fallen. His use of the words “Gestapo tactics” and “Good Germans” will be red flags to some, but he’s clearly speaking about a descent of long-held American values here and not just throwing lash-out adjectives around.
And, indeed, if you look at Point A as where we were X number of years ago in terms of American steadfast values and Point B where we are now, there is a perceptible shift – not one that has come with any big announcement, but via a series of teeny baby steps taken as if no steps were taken at all.
The thrust of his piece is at its end:
Our moral trajectory over the Bush years could not be better dramatized than it was by a reunion of an elite group of two dozen World War II veterans in Washington this month. They were participants in a top-secret operation to interrogate some 4,000 Nazi prisoners of war. Until now, they have kept silent, but America’s recent record prompted them to talk to The Washington Post.
“We got more information out of a German general with a game of chess or Ping-Pong than they do today, with their torture,” said Henry Kolm, 90, an M.I.T. physicist whose interrogation of Rudolf Hess, Hitler’s deputy, took place over a chessboard. George Frenkel, 87, recalled that he “never laid hands on anyone” in his many interrogations, adding, “I’m proud to say I never compromised my humanity.”
Our humanity has been compromised by those who use Gestapo tactics in our war. The longer we stand idly by while they do so, the more we resemble those “good Germans” who professed ignorance of their own Gestapo. It’s up to us to wake up our somnambulant Congress to challenge administration policy every day. Let the war’s last supporters filibuster all night if they want to. There is nothing left to lose except whatever remains of our country’s good name.
The beginning is where he also notes a common administration response and the reason he felt this column’s time had come:
“BUSH lies” doesn’t cut it anymore. It’s time to confront the darker reality that we are lying to ourselves.
Ten days ago The Times unearthed yet another round of secret Department of Justice memos countenancing torture. President Bush gave his standard response: “This government does not torture people.” Of course, it all depends on what the meaning of “torture” is. The whole point of these memos is to repeatedly recalibrate the definition so Mr. Bush can keep pleading innocent.
And that has been a modus operandi not just of the administration, but going back to Mr. Bush’s 2000 Presidential campaign.
When he ran against Arizona Senator John McCain, who was widely seen then as a reformer, Mr. Bush reformulated his campaign at one time and appeared behind signs that said he was “reformer with results.” But after Mr. Bush was elected, it turned out some of those reforms were not such great reforms after all.
Administration environmental policies have been given names to sound like great environmental policies, but check with any number of prestigious, independent environmental organizations and they’ll tell you that the administration is considered to have one of the poorest records on environmental issues. Similarly, the administration insists it is not saying Saddam Hussein was involved with 911 but it has repeatedly suggested just that even as it denied it was doing so.
It’s the use of language to recast and deny. But if previous definitions were used or not shifted and tossed away, it is clear on several fronts that this administration has made many significant shifts which claiming it was doing no such thing. Rich writes:
By any legal standards except those rubber-stamped by Alberto Gonzales, we are practicing torture, and we have known we are doing so ever since photographic proof emerged from Abu Ghraib more than three years ago. As Andrew Sullivan, once a Bush cheerleader, observed last weekend in The Sunday Times of London, America’s “enhanced interrogation” techniques have a grotesque provenance: “Verschärfte Vernehmung, enhanced or intensified interrogation, was the exact term innovated by the Gestapo to describe what became known as the ‘third degree.’ It left no marks. It included hypothermia, stress positions and long-time sleep deprivation.”
Still, the drill remains the same. The administration gives its alibi (Abu Ghraib was just a few bad apples). A few members of Congress squawk. The debate is labeled “politics.” We turn the page.
There has been scarcely more response to the similarly recurrent story of apparent war crimes committed by our contractors in Iraq. Call me cynical, but when Laura Bush spoke up last week about the human rights atrocities in Burma, it seemed less an act of selfless humanitarianism than another administration maneuver to change the subject from its own abuses.
Laura Bush’s comments and motivations? That’s up for debate and no one — Rich included — can say they know she was trying to change a subject. Perhaps this happened: perhaps she WAS outraged by it. Rich almost undermines his argument by falling into the discredit-you-opponents trap.
But the larger issue in America is that our goal posts keep changing.
And how can they change so easily?
Once upon a time there were people in both parties who were staunch partisans but had ideals that they would not toss away just to win an election or cling to power.
These ideas were steadfast and were the reason WHY they belonged to X or Y party — and the reason they were so proud to be Americans.
Those of us who have spent years of our lives overseas (in my case India, Bangladesh, Spain and covering parts of Mexico) often ran into heated criticisms and outright denunciations of the United States but we also know that the United States has long been a country considered by many in the world to be perhaps a CUT ABOVE the rest due to certain values.
These values have also been a selling point for the United States abroad. But now some of the values are falling by the wayside and, as Rich notes, many Americans really don’t seem to care.
We are now in an era when politics to many seems to be less about policy and fundamental values than defending your own party’s political players, no matter what they do.
Longtime principles are tossed out as quickly as used Kleenex. The mental adjustments are made (this MUST be right because the administration says so and because this or that talk show host or blog says so). Old values become inoperative and the new values (or non-values) are rationalized and quickly become the norm.
What’s the solution? Congress? Congress can only be part of it. And clamoring for one political party to do something about it won’t cut it, either.
It’s about Americans who are now willing to let a government or party change the rules of the game or throw away longstanding ideals and values and just go along with it. It’s about whether politics means more than just making sure your side gets in and stays in.
They used to say about conservative icon Barry Goldwater: “He’d rather be right than be President.”
Politicos of both parties seems as if they’d all rather be president — and worry about being right later on.
But so do many Americans. Torture? Many who insist what’s going on now isn’t torture KNOW in their hearts it is torture but that’s not what “their team” says so they’ll insist it isn’t and go after those who say it is.
It’s not about Americans being “Good Germans.”
It’s about Americans being bad — and negligent — trustees of long held, long cherished values.
Values that generations of American died to protect — and to perpetuate.

Yep, great news alright. Would that depend on who the ruling elite would be?
If there RFN's you won't be allowed to travel and if there Dem's they'll allow you to visit your relatives.
I guess I should get a passport then.

We don't want those seniors getting their medicine cheap and making the powerful drug companies lose money now do we?
That's a good article and so true. Least we forget our history and once again let Nazism take hold here we must speak up.
Though if may not make any difference now in the future it will and they will be held accountable.
Cheney says don't put anything on paper as it can come back to bite you in the ass.
Well that may work for awhile, however it only takes one to speak up and he'll walk the gallows just like the Nazi's did after their trials.
They will all pay for their War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity.
God Bless all.
i for one am not going anywhere. i'm going to fight for my country and my constitution. we did it before, looks like we may have to do it again
Hey Anon--
This topic gets under my skin more than you know. The day I am required to prove I have a right to be here by brandishing a National ID or Real ID is the day I will have handed over every last civil liberty to the totalitarian regime that wants total control over my life and my person. Don't get me started on the idiotic passport thing...just to step across an imaginary border??? Please. No more trips down to Tijuana for me...and apparently I won't be visiting my family in Canada either...damn I wish I had made that trip while my civil liberties were still intact...
p.s. NO I do not feel any safer now...I think we are living in the most dangerous times possible, under the most dangerous conditions possible, at least for those of us who value life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Anon
Good one! The national ID! I wrote about this about a year ago when it first became an issue. They are not designed to track terrorists. As you point out they are to track us.
Terrorists are not concerned with passports and no fly lists. They are coming and going through our unsecured borders.
Realizing years ago now that this is all beyond my control I have resolved myself to the inevitable happening and it will. I, like you have to no avail tried to wake people up.
At this point like you I have no need to travel and think I am better off staying put in Mass. I will continue to try and help people deal with what is going to happen and as a Rose for a Rose said, we have done this before and we will do it again. I will do it from here. I have family all over the country and sons helping Bush which puts everything we discuss into a wider light.
You have read my thoughts. In 1776 the enemy was from without. Today the enemy is within, it is us, our own Government but once again we will percevere.
It is just ironic to me because when the wall came down and the USSR fell apart the world rejoiced and I was horrified as I saw this and a lot more coming.
The longer Bush remains in office, the more I get the creepy feeling that someday there will be checkpoints all over the country with uniformed and armed guards asking to see "your papers".
Chilling!
I posted on this several times. I believe currently there are 17 states that are refusing to participate. Every move the bush regime makes is moving us closer to reliving the nightmare that was Nazi Germany. They're ramping it up too. It's surreal is what it is. It's unbelievable that this has all happened in the last seven years.
"NO I do not feel any safer now...I think we are living in the most dangerous times possible, under the most dangerous conditions possible, at least for those of us who value life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."
Very well said Blue!
Before it is over, Americans will need a National ID and a passport to purchase food.
Having recently travelled to both Europe and Mexico and having gone through various airports and borders, I can tell you that US has the most inane, insane "security" policies of anywhere...and the rudest damn people in charge of it, too. Leaving LAX was like going through an interrogation with guards yelling, demanding, and practically demanding we strip naked. Add to that the three hours we waited at the Mexican border so some guy with a stick up his butt and an apparently wee tiny tallywhacker could abuse us about not having IDs for the 8 and 11 year olds in the car and who actually said "Don't you care about your children?"
I've a theory that W and Co. want to make international travel so horrible that when they actually ban it, the sheep, uh, people won't be so angry. Aren't closed borders--in or out--the next step in a fascist regime?
It's a weird one if the States let it go through.
Prisoners in our own country. And they already HAVE the Soc.Sec.#'s, which, the American People were assured when that legislation was passed, were SACRED NUMBERS. No one was ever going to get your number except for you and the SS administration. A couple of years ago I had to go to a dermatologist (that's a dermatologist, folks) and they demanded my SS#. I refused to fill out that blank on the form. The receptionist said, "I'm sorry, but we can't treat you." Well, I raised a stink and she went somewhere and consulted with her bosses and came back and said "OK" finally. But why would a dermatologist need your Soc.Sec # if you're not on Medicare or Medicaid? Simple. They sell the info to direct mail marketers. Two weeks later I received several medical related pieces of mail, including one from a Crematorium. My problem was skin cancer, so I suppose they got that info from the dermatologist's form and suspected I might die soon.
Great post, AP. I wonder how far apart we are on the watch list. I fear there will come a time when we have to insert our all-in-one cards and recite the pledge of loyalty to the Reich to enter a pay toilet.
President Bush warned of dire consequences if Iran acquires nuclear weapons during a press conference on Wednesday, saying that he had told world leaders the country must be prevented from achieving nuclear capability "if you're interested in avoiding World War III."
"We've got a leader in Iran who has announced that he wants to destroy Israel," Bush said, responding to Russia's stated cautioning against military action targeting Tehran's suspected atomic program.
"So I've told people that, if you're interested in avoiding World War III, it seems like you ought to be interested in preventing them from having the knowledge necessary to make a nuclear weapon," said Bush.
You don't need the ability to read to see in between the lines.

I brought this up before I started blogging to those I knew and they laughed at me.
Like you said terrorists don't give a damn about passports or visa's. They will get in one way or the other.
What is even more scary and is never mentioned is the Cuban Wet Foot\Dry Foot policy we have.
I'm sure if any Cubans read this they will take issue with me about it, however one must consider the fact that we consider Cuba a Communist Country whom we oppose, who's to say that Al-Qaeda hasn't converted some Cubans over to there side.
All they have to do is touch dry soil and there allowed to stay here. Easy way to get a few cells into the country huh?
And yes we are in danger from the enemy within and no one will admit it. Let us hope and pray that no American blood will be spilled by other Americans in the attempt to regain our Constitution and Democracy.

I hardly looked like a terrorist, but I still got the full script.
Like you said those who do the checks are clowns and the procedures are stupid. Making you throw away lighters, water and mothers being made to contaminate their babies bottles of breast milk.
And were suppose to feel safer with these clowns protecting us as we board airplanes? The whole security setup is a joke and if they really want to blow something up I highly doubt that these ass wipes could stop them.
By the way I'm glad you had a good trip for Oktoberfest in Germany.

Some states are fighting it, however I don't see it going anywhere but in effect. It will be ties to all Federal Benefits like Social Security and Medicare\Medicade.
They may as well tattoo numbers on our wrists or arms because this is no different from what the Nazi's did in keeping track of the Jewish population.
Who would have thought that one day our country would be led by Nazi's and enabled by the supposedly opposition party?

We are facing some dark times ahead as heard today when Der Fuhrer Adolph Bush spoke those magic words at a press conference.
World War III!!!!!!
And to tell Turkey that they can't go after those they consider terrorist shows how little he really cares about our troops in Iraq.
I guess Turkey should tell the Decider that he's either with them or against them in there quest to fight terrorism.
And lets not forget Condi Liar Rice complaining about Putin having to much power and it being bad for Democracy.
All she has to do is look at her boss and she will see a mirror image of Her Fuhrer.

Anon, every time I read one of your posts, my heart stops for a second. Thats not a bad thing - what you're writing is true, even if it hasn't happened just yet, or totally. Its reading it, hearing it instead of just thinking it that makes it hit home the way it does.

My heart breaks every time I see something else wrong being done in the name of America.
One thing though for sure is that one day they all will be held accountable. If not in this world than in the next.
===================================
There is much wrong inside America today. Our Government is broken and those we trusted to Uphold, Protect and Defend the Constitution have betrayed us.
I consider myself a Christian and even knowing that I still find myself sometimes asking why a God whom I accepted as my Saviour would allow an evil like what we have now in our Country be allowed to go on with no accountability to man or God.
This is very troubling too me and I'm sure to many others of good will.
Have we become so vile a Nation that this is our punishment by the Lord for turning from what our Country was founded upon? I hope not.
I pray that one day we will be able to repent for our Countries Sins and once again be respect and embraced in the World.
Until that day we will face much more evil and destruction and death.
Only when we have washed all the blood off our hands will the Lord forgive us. Only than can we reclaim the Honor and Integrity we have lost.
Only than will we once again be America the Land of the Free. A true Democracy.
God Bless all.
"Have we become so vile a Nation that this is our punishment by the Lord for turning from what our Country was founded upon?"
Anon - NO this is not a punishment, then again I don't believe that any God serves up punishments in the form of war, famine, natural disaster etc...
It could however, be a test - depending on what you believe.
Me personally, I believe that it is simply the rule of Karmic law. What we are seeing now and experiencing are the culmination of centuries of decisions, actions, mistakes and yes - even good deeds and best of intentions. Much like the paths our lives take, determined by our actions and reactions to our environment we end up in a particular place as a matter of eventuality.
So too does this exist for the world as a whole, our individual actions, though minuscule in the grand scheme of things do not exempt us from altering the state of the world we live in, because when you put it all together as a whole we are the world, and our actions dictate the harmony and disharmony of the entire globe, starting many, many moons ago.
It will pass, it will change - not without pain and loss (for those of us who fight and resist as well as for those who do not or cannot) - but it will come full circle because this time too, is a period of change affecting the generations to come.
Do not feel anger towards your God Anon, for without Evil there is no Good, without pain their is no pleasure, without hatred there is no love. Without darkness, there is no light.
Just remember, even if you feel that your God (or any Gods) have given us this pain and punishment, so too did they give us the tools to fight for change - to resist - to make it well again. Don't forget to use what you've been given, which if I may say so, is the sharpest pen I've seen in a while.
anok...
Thank you as I needed some reinforcement that what I and many others are doing is not in vain.
I am not angry at the Lord as it appears to sound like I am. Instead its like Mother Teresa whom we just found out had doubts herself yet continued to do good deeds even though she questioned her own faith.
It is hard to understand why people as evil as we have seen in our life times was let to exist and carry out the most vile inhumanities of our century.
Though its been said that the Lord would not interfere in worldly affairs, since we were given free will, seeing the inhumanities of others touches many souls in such a deep way and troubles many a heart.
Bill Moyers Journal tonight had a report on Blackwater and they are truly a scary lot. An army of God so to speak, a Christian Army with those from whom many go back to the beliefs of the Crusaders.
And its been said that they will be providing security at the Republican Convention next year. Will they kill anyone? The odds are that some innocent person will end up dying and they will not be held accountable, just like there not now in Iraq or elsewhere around the World.
I do see real harm to our country and there are many days now where I don't know if what I am doing blogging is making any difference what soever. And to me that is very scary.
How the American People can not see what's right in front of their noses is almost beyond belief. I think that soon we will be under a full blown Dictatorship and many innocent people over here will die like those in Iraq, Myanmar and Palestine are dying right now this very minute.
Anyway thanks for giving me some hope that maybe in a shorter time than I would think we will get our Democracy back.
God Bless.
Don't tell us Martial Law isn't on it's way:
Heavily armed paramilitary mercenaries from the Blackwater private security firm, infamous for their work in Iraq, are openly patrolling the streets of New Orleans. Some of the mercenaries say they have been "deputized" by the Louisiana governor; indeed some are wearing gold Louisiana state law enforcement badges on their chests and Blackwater photo identification cards on their arms. They say they are on contract with the Department of Homeland Security and have been given the authority to use lethal force. Several mercenaries we spoke with said they had served in Iraq on the personal security details of the former head of the US occupation, L. Paul Bremer and the former US ambassador to Iraq, John Negroponte.
"This is a totally new thing to have guys like us working CONUS (Continental United States)," a heavily armed Blackwater mercenary told us as we stood on Bourbon Street in the French Quarter. "We're much better equipped to deal with the situation in Iraq."
Blackwater mercenaries are some of the most feared professional killers in the world and they are accustomed to operating without worry of legal consequences. Their presence on the streets of New Orleans should be a cause for serious concern for the remaining residents of the city and raises alarming questions about why the government would allow men trained to kill with impunity in places like Iraq and Afghanistan to operate here. Some of the men now patrolling the streets of New Orleans returned from Iraq as recently as 2 weeks ago.
What is most disturbing is the claim of several Blackwater mercenaries we spoke with that they are here under contract from the federal and Louisiana state governments.
Blackwater is one of the leading private "security" firms servicing the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan. It has several US government contracts and has provided security for many senior US diplomats, foreign dignitaries and corporations. The company rose to international prominence after 4 of its men were killed in Fallujah and two of their charred bodies were hung from a bridge in March 2004. Those killings sparked the massive US retaliation against the civilian population of Fallujah that resulted in scores of deaths and tens of thousands of refugees.
As the threat of forced evictions now looms in New Orleans and the city confiscates even legally registered weapons from civilians, the private mercenaries of Blackwater patrol the streets openly wielding M-16s and other assault weapons. This despite Police Commissioner Eddie Compass' claim that "Only law enforcement are allowed to have weapons."
The Democratic chairman of the powerful House Appropriations Committee is prepared to play hardball with President Bush over funding the war in Iraq.
Rep. David Obey (D-WI), who has pledged to sideline the latest Pentagon funding request until next year in addition to proposing a tax hike to finance the war, says he’s not letting anything — even Democratic leaders like Speaker Nancy Pelosi — get in his way.
Obey, who told the Washington Post that he hates the “misbegotten, stupid, ill-advised” war, pushed past Speaker Pelosi’s objections to his plan to levy a tax to pay for the war, the paper reports.
“I went to Nancy a week before we did it, and I told her: ‘Nancy, I’m gonna do two things,’”said Obey, according to in the Post. “One of them you’re gonna like, and one of them you’re not.”
Pelosi, who favored Obey’s idea of not addressing war funding this year, took issue with his war tax plan.
“Just as I have opposed the war from the outset … I am opposed to a war surtax,” she said of the plan at the beginning of the month, and more recently stated that she didn’t think that “an across-the-board tax was a fair one…we don’t go forward lightly when we’re talking about a tax on all the American people.”
Pelosi is a traitor!
Anon, you are welcome. I have found that during these trying times I simultaneously seek refuge in, and doubt fiercely my spirituality.
DOn't doubt what blogging is doing either - I know that since I have been on blogger, even for a few months - I have felt assured, and relieved that I am not the only person aside from my husband who sees what is happening. The more we write, the more reach out, the more we network and spread the word - the better off the world will be. Civil disobedience, protests, and direct action/resistance isn't the only way to help initiate real change. At least, Thomas Paine didn't think so ;)
So keep on bloggin' my friend! Feel free to e mail anytime, about anything. Solidarity is key...
Larry, Oh - Dear - Gods. I'm going to reprint your comment on my blog, when you have the time, please drop by with some references/site sources. I would love to read further about this matter. I know they did this right after Katrina, but I wasn't aware that it was still happening.
Thanks for the heads up.
Hey Anon
I thought I caught last week that you wrote on weekends so I thought I would check in. Hope all is well!
hi, Anon--
I read a few months ago in a conservative online newsletter about a microchip being pushed to be inserted under the skin. the company that makes them was urging the gov't to implant them in LEGAL Mexican immigrants. the plan was: if you DIDN'T have such an implant you could be identified as an illegal immigrant.
so, people who had committed _no_crime_ would be trackable as they went to work, went to the store, traveled around the country, etc. etc.
when a few timid objections were raised [not by the neo-cons, you can be sure] those who were pushing for their implementation concentrated on the fact that injecting them into the body wouldn't be THAT painful ["it's only about the size of a grain of rice"] just as if that was the point.
my guess is: now that this technology is available, it will be forced upon us all eventually. they'll start with some group [such as immigrants or criminals] as a test case. when no hue-and-cry is raised, they'll move on to the rest of us as time goes on.
AAArgh! The idiot ignores California burning and comes on and says he needs 46 Billion more for his wars. He has a lot of B's that piece of crap. Just one more excuse to declare martial order. Keep smiling buddy!
larry...
I know about Der Fuhrer's private illegal army Blackwater and I believe that its a violation of the Constitution to support a private army. Another High Crime and Misdemeanor by this administration.
As to Obey I hope he don't cave in and back down like Congressman Stark did.
And I called Pelosi a Traitor in both my calls to her California office.

anok...
Thank you and indeed these are trying times as I wrote above in my new post.
The time is coming for the American people to chose. Dictatorship or Freedom. The question then becomes what will they chose?

patriot...
Except for not knowing anymore if I'm living in a dream or the events taking place are real, I'm doing fine.
And I mentioned the drought and fires in my post above.
Thanks for checking.

two crows...
The RFID chip has been mentioned many times and I sure don't want one put in me.
It's really no different then the chip people put in their pets to identify them if there lost and turned in to a animal shelter or humane society.
OnStar is another way of tracking people and the rich sure wants in in their cars and trucks. Don't want to get them back all stripped down after they are stolen.
I already called a Senators office and told them they should just tattoo everyone like the Nazi's did as it worked so well for Hitler.
I would imagine they didn't like that voice mail very much. I mean after all I implied they were all Nazi's. Don't believe I got much love for that message.

We are headed now into darker days and whether we survive it or not we must prepare for the worse.
Only time will tell if we survive or not and how we react to wanting our freedom will determine much of how it all ends.
We will be the new insurgents like the Sons of Liberty were back when our forefathers fought to establish our Democracy. Whether or not we win will be decided by not only our response, but that of the rest of the World as well.
If you believe in God or not matters not. I will place my faith in the Lord and pray for guidance and faith that He will provide us the means to reclaim our country.
God Bless you all.
Congress can pass all the laws it wants..implementing them is another animal entirely.
They had to rescind the deadline for those passport requirements because there is roughly a 6-9 month backlog in issuing the damn things.
No one on the left supports all these intrusions into our freedoms. The general public isn't aware of most of the ID laws and new requirements until they need to do something that requires one or more of them. Then they get pissed. But by then its too late.
I blame the MSM for not doing their job informing the population of what is being done in Congress. It is their fault that the majority of Americans know so little about what goes down until its too late to do anything about it.
But the news divisions are now expected to turn a profit..so what is news has slowly changed..Britney and Paris sell..Listing all the bills and amendments being considered in Congress Do NOT.
Even the moderates and rightwingers I know are so uninformed, I go nuts when I bring up something and they don't know wtf I am talking about. They get 90 second soundbites on the evening news..and the important stuff doesn't fit into those windows.
My husband gets and reads the local newspaper daily. When he comes up to me and says..hey! Do you know about this? I say: Of course jackass..thats old news. Or take when he watches the CBS evening news and Katie Couric waxes poetic about something that went down over a week ago.
I don't know what to say about Martial Law..but I do know that I own a gun and I am not afraid to use it. I participated in various underground activities in the past and I don't have a problem doing that again.
I would rather die than live in a country that has taken my freedoms via Martial Law. and I say that without one ounce of fear, but plenty of loathing..
meanwhile, those folks who support the fence along the Mexican border forget one immutable fact:
fences keep people in as well as keeping people out.
